The challenge
On an intensely played course, natural grass teeing grounds do not last long. Bare spots, uneven lies, and constant repair work led to limited play quality, especially in summer and winter.
Our approach
The Drohme team built the frames and sub-base, we designed and constructed the teeboxes within them: hitting surfaces made of different types of artificial grass, neatly finished within a sturdy edge and at the correct height in the terrain.
The result
Teeboxes that are playable all year round, with a consistent ball lie, even wear, and significantly less maintenance for the greenkeepers. A solution that provides peace of mind for both players and the course.
The story
The Brussels Drohme Golf Club is nestled in the green heart of Brussels and boasts a heavily played course. It is precisely there that natural grass teeing grounds wear out the fastest: after a busy weekend or a dry spell, little remains.
Together with the Drohme team, we opted for permanent teeboxes. They built the frames on site, with a sturdy edge and a well-finished sub-base at the correct height within the landscape. Within these, we designed and constructed the teeboxes: the layout of the surfaces, the construction, and the types of artificial grass that work best for each zone.
Each teebox has a central strip with a finer, faster hitting surface, alongside wider lanes in a more robust grass. This ensures players always stand on a clean, even spot, and wear is distributed across the entire box instead of concentrating on one point.
The teeboxes lie flush with the terrain, with a dark edge that neatly blends into the path and the surrounding grass. The result is a calm appearance that fits the course's environment.
“The new teeboxes play great and require almost no maintenance anymore.”
